Dandelion

2013-02-26 12:50

DandelionDandelion is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. They are native to Eurasia and North America, and two species, T. officinale and T. erythrospermum, are found as weeds worldwide.

Dandelion leaves have diuretic and saluretic action better than the root. They also deliver a good supply of potassium, useful with a diuretic. Dandelion root is known to be an excellent blood cleanser, specifically for the liver, as well as a mild laxative. Inulin is also used to strengthen the kidneys and as a pancreatic aid. It clears away heat, removes toxic substances, relieves boils, resolves masses and induces diuresis to relieve strangury (slow and painful discharge of urine). The leaf nutritionally supports kidney function. The root nutritionally supports gall-bladder and liver function and enhances the flow of bile.
