I was diagnosed with PKD three years ago. From then on, I abide by my doctor’s requirement, so my condition is stable. However, the last blood test shows my serum creatinine is 3.6. What does creatinine 3.6 mean for people with PKD?

Answer :

What Does Creatinine 3.6 Mean for People with PKD For many people especially young people, Polycystic Kidney Disease is mild and they can live without any symptom for several decades. However, with age, patients will have some symptoms. Generally, patients who have PKD have high blood pressure by age 20-30, high creatinine level by age 30-40 and renal failure by age 60. If your creatinine level is higher than the normal (0.5-1.1mg/dl for female, 0.6-1.2mg.dl for male), it means more than 50% of kidney function has lost. If uncontrolled effectively, Polycystic Kidney Disease will lead to renal failure.

Creatinine 3.6 is much higher than the normal level. When it continuously rises, patients may have to rely on dialysis or kidney function to live. Fortunately, it is still possible for these patients to improve their condition with prompt treatment. The last thing you should remember is that make sure you have consulted doctor before taking any treatment.
