Common Complications With PKDPolycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder. With the development of the test and popularization of regular physical examination, more and more people are diagnosed with PKD. Except the treatment for this disease, to prevent complications is also very important. This article is about the common complications with PKD.

- High blood pressure

High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the most commonly seen complications of Polycystic Kidney Disease. As you know, the cyst is growing and when it grows to large, it will compress the nearby tissues, including the blood vessels. As a result, the blood volume in the kidneys is decreased, which are reflected by the receptor by increasing renin secretion. And then, angiotensin levels raise and the blood vessels become narrowed, leading to the blood pressure of the whole body to elevate. Untreated, high blood pressure can cause further damage to your kidneys and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.

- Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infections caused by PKD include cystitis, pyelonephritis, cystic infection and perinephric abscess. In about 20% PKD patients, urinary tract infection is the first emerging complication. 50%-70% of the patients have urinary tract infection at least one time in their whole lives, especially for women. When it occurs, do not depend on antibiotics too much, because antibiotics have side-effects.

- Kidney stones

PKD patients often have back pain, and the pain is always dull. However, when it becomes colic accompanied hematuria (blood in urine), it may imply that there are kidney stones. Kidney stone is the result of calcified cysts.

As for the treatment of complications, in western, surgeries like decortication and puncture and aspiration. However, after the removing of large cysts, small cysts will grow fast because of the decreased pressure. Chinese herbs are more effective because it will not only dissolve the cysts but also repair the damaged kidney tissues, so as to prevent the relapse of any complication.
